We live in a world where pleasing other people is what we tend to think about. Not knowing yourself has extensive implications for how you live your life and relate to others.
“if you do not know and understand yourself you will not be able to take care of yourself; without being in touch with yourself, you will not be able to truly get in touch with others; without understanding yourself, you will not be in a position to understand and relate to others”-Andy Turnbull
Grow as teenagers, there is a huge change physically and emotionally and an increasing need to feel independent and a desire to find and identity. The need for acceptance becomes more about acceptance by peers and friends, rather family.
I guess we often do things just to please family and friends and to meet the need of love and belonging, while we are not happy with the decisions we made throughout. We often don’t realize that not knowing what you want can be a disadvantage, because we get separated from our passions and goals.
We study courses just because a friend is studying the same course, we work for a company just because a friend working there as well.
Who are you?
What happened to your dreams and goals?
Are you living your life or are you living to please your friends?
Are you happy with what you have accomplished so far?
We all have a purpose in this world, it is one’s duty to figure out what that purpose is, and the desire to please others just to fit it, sometimes it is not the way to go.
As we grow we tend to make mistakes and fall into traps that were never made for us, we only fall in because we are, at a wrong place, at a wrong time, with wrong people.
Friends and peers can be a motivation to you, but always try by all means to find make your and shape your own path.
Finding your identity will lead you to happiness.
